Zuken Receives Order from Okuma for "E3.series"
Contributes to Improving Product Competition for Machine Tools through Increasing the Efficiency of the Control Design Process
(Mar 6, 2013)

Zuken Inc. ("Zuken") has received an order from Okuma Corporation ("Okuma"), a leading company in machine tools, for its electrical control and cabling design solution "E3.series." The Zuken "E3.series" has an implementation track record of more than 25,000 licenses in approximately 2,100 companies worldwide, as a CAD for electrical control and cabling design that is effective in the development of products such as industry machinery, plants and transportation devices etc. The "E3.series" provides one-stop management for design information related to circuit diagrams, cable workshop drawings, control panel layout drawings etc. and electrical control/cabling design, and automatically achieves consistency between each type of drawing. It greatly increases the efficiency of control design area work, where it is necessary to create a wide variety and large number of drawings for each usage and inconsistencies can easily occur between each type of drawing, and has gained high recognition among world leading companies as a solution that can greatly reduce the burden on designers.

In recent times, the machine tools market has seen not only the traditional competition between manufacturers in developed countries such as Europe and America, but also a growing intensification in rivalry with manufacturers in developing countries such as China, Korea and Taiwan. In order to maintain their level of global competitiveness, Japanese machine tools manufacturers are aiming, in addition to superior technology, to create more efficient development and production structures.
In order to resolve these kinds of issues, Okuma has decided to implement the "E3.series," which provides total management of the control panel design process, unify the design data based on "E3.series" and link it between the various tools. This will not only eliminate duplicated operations and simplify verification work, but it will also be possible to check interference in devices within the control panel using the "E2.series" control panel 3D layout feature, thus further improving design efficiency.

The implementation of the "E3.series" will enable
(1) Automatic generation of the various diagrams used in control design (circuit diagrams, connection diagrams and cabling diagrams etc.)
(2) Automatic generation of BOM information(product information, configuration information)
By reducing large-scale reductions in design time and defects caused by human error, this is expected to be very effective in realizing the "high quality, high efficiency/speed production" sought after by Okuma.

Zuken, in addition to providing the "E3.series,", will provide comprehensive support for an optimized approach to further improving the design and manufacturing processes of Okuma.
